I made A few substitutions in this recipes. I switched the steel-cut oats for Rolled oats. The recipe designer said this would make for mushy oatmeal but personally I like a mushy, goopy oatmeal. (Plus rolled oats were all I had)
Second, it called for dried apples. I used regular apples chooped up in fairly large chunks. I think the main difference here is the size of the chunks. Plus the apples were very soft. I think dried apples might have held their shape a little but better.
For toppings, I was thinking flax seeds or pecans would be good on top. I didnt personally try this though. I just used 2% milk, brown sugar and pancake syrup. I think a cinnamon toasted pecan would be exceptionally good.
I served the oatmeal with waffles from Kodiak mix + mini chocolate chips. Oh and strawberries.
